The use of ski poles in skiing can add important timing, balance, and flow to your skiing movements by acting as a starting motion for a new turn. Just what is that motion called, anyhow? Thirty years ago, ski instructors taught “pole plants”. Welcome to the new Millenium, where that move is more commonly called “pole swings”.

It’s a topic that most outdoor enthuiasts shy away from during apres events, but one most are intimately familiar with. Natural clothing materials like wool and cotton don’t retain odors, but are inferior to synthetic materials for durability and warmth when wet. Synthetic outdoor clothing lasts for years of heavy use, but after awhile begin to develop certain je ne sais qois pas odors that repeated washings don’t remove. How can you maintain your outdoor synthetic clothing so you don’t have to leave it in the woodshed at the end of a day?!

Maintaining good balance from turn to turn can create an excellent flow to your skiing and riding. This flow is the result of steady and continuous turning movements that rely on no hesitation on your part in redirecting from side to side. A hesitation between leaving the last turn and starting a new one will surely break up your good balance; be flowing in your skiing and riding by starting new turns by blending them with the old turn.
