Seth Wescott, Maine Olympian
January 20th, 2006It’s always good to have a personal connection with the Olympics, and Torino 2006 could be a special year for the State of Maine. Seth Wescott is the reigning 2005 World Boardercross Champion and has been selected to compete in that event in Torino next month. Seth Wescott is a resident of Carrabassett Valley, Maine, which is home to Sugarloaf/USA and, when off the slopes, acts just like any local Sugarloafer. We’ve always known him as an awesome snowboarder, especially in the pipe and park but his successes have begun to give him international exposure and Torino should be just another step in that career!
As a graduate of Carrabassett Valley Academy, Seth Wescott is among other CVA alumni racers as fellow Olympians Bode Miller and Kristen Clark. With that kind of pedigree, Seth Wescott has a special edge when competing in a boardercross course; he’s a got both the strong riding skills and special racing skills to finish first and the result is that he flat out rips on his board. He’s got a very, very good opportunity to win a medal at Torino 2006 and it’ll be most satisfying for all Americans if he does. Seth Wescott is as genuine as they come and that personality shines through whether he’s tipping a drink with you at the local pub or he’s on tv teaching the Today Show staff how to snowboard. (Anne Curry was brave enough to try; Matt Lauer whimped out!)
I’m personally proud to be associated with Seth Wescott through the Winterkids organization, (www.winterkids.org) of which I am a member of the Board of Directors. Seth Wescott has found time in his busy schedule to become a spokesperson for this non-profit organization that promotes healthy lifestyles for kids, particularly in the winter months. As a World Class Athlete, his message of living an outdoor lifestyle in the winter and setting lifetime goals is an awesome example for schoolkids and we appreciate all the time and effort he’s provided to assist us in our mission.
