Skiing Riding Hydration

December 26th, 2006

Staying hydrated is an important part of any sporting activity. Similar to summer conditions, you can lose as much as a pint of water an hour during winter outdoor activities. Want to maximize your time on the slopes? Sounds like you need a hydration system designed specifically for skiing and riding, like the Camelbak Snowbowl.
The Snowbowl is Camelback’s product for a day of skiing/riding or short day treks. It carries 50 ounces in an insulated bladder and includes an insulated tube. The insulated tube is the most exposed area, so the best practice is to blow the water back down into the reservoir to minimize the potential for freezing. With that in mind, the Snowbowl’s bite valve includes a handy on/off valve that will keep water from coming back up the tube after you’ve blown it down into the reservoir.

With only shoulder straps, there are no other straps or buckles to catch on the chairlift or trees. The Snowbowl is very low profile, so it can worn under a jacket, which is an excellent option in very cold weather to improve insulation.

The Snowbowl is light (less than 1 pound) and weighs only about 4 pounds full. It retails for between $30 and $40. Though small and inexpensive, a Snowbowl can make a big difference by keeping you from getting tired; that can mean more runs over the course of a day.
