Skiing Snowboarding Clothes Storage
May 3rd, 2006Avid skiers and riders need to invest in a lot of different clothing to be ready for any winter conditions. As a result, there’s usually much more clothing than gear to store during the off-season: here are some tips on storing your winter recreation clothing for the summer:
- Store all clothing in a clean condition. Wash everything that’s been worn even once. When in doubt, wash it again!
- Put clothing away dry. Almost all synthetic base layer and fleece clothing should be hung dry and never put in the dryer. Check specific instructions.
- While washing, re-waterproof outer wear jackets and pants and dry in the dryer: the heat will help to restore the waterproofing. Check specific instructions.
- Store all clothing on hangers, in a dry, upstairs closet. Yes, this takes some time and consumes closet space, but hanging will helps to retain the shape of synthetic clothing and keeps it dry and aired out.
- Wash accessories like gloves, hats, and balaclavas according to their specific instructions. Gloves can especially develop incredible new smells. If possible, remove helmet liner parts and hand wash in mild soap.
- Store accessories in a breathable container in a dry, upstairs closet. Milk crates or baskets work great. Duffle bags work well, too.
- If possible, store everything in one place. At the very least, make a list or mark what’s stored where. You’ll be very glad you did next November.
