Spring Skiing Top Ten List
March 28th, 2006Winter always seems reluctant to release its grip , but when it finally does, its enthusiastic replacement is Spring’s awesome blue skies, sunshine, and soft snow. These conditions last for an all-too-brief time, so let’s focus on getting out and enjoying them. Here are 10 tips on skiing and riding in spring conditions:
1. Aim to travel over the whitest snow you can find; it will be the driest and firmest surface.
2. Apply suntan lotion liberally and often; be sure to cover under your chin, behind your ears, and your forehead.
3. Look before you leap; snow conditions can change hourly in April.
4. Wearing shorts while skiing and riding is a poor idea; a fall could cause first degree burns.
5. Keep the sun off your head; wear a lightweight helmet or hat.
6. Good quality sunglasses are essential; polarized lenses are a worthy investment.
7. Make it a habit to apply lip balm every time you load a chairlift.
8. As you change layers throughout the day, remember to keep your ticket or season pass with you.
9. Drink water often; re-hydrating will keep you from getting fatigued.
10. Always wear gloves; lightweight suede or leather are best.
