Spring Skiing!

April 11th, 2006

It’s the Prime Time! It took awhile to get here, but finally winter is shaking itself off the Northeast and leaving us in sunny skies and warm temps. We’ve been out skiing and riding, every day, and finally took a short break to leave this post; when Spring skiing, take your time!

When the snow begins to get softer and wetter, it’s time to slow everything down.  Rushing down the hill or rushing your movements is a hard way to go when the weather brings added weight to the ski.   The most efficient Spring skiing and riding occurs when you make measured movements, with athleticism, and avoid forcing yourself into a turn or down through the snow.

To take your time, dial the speed back, a lot!  Torino 2006 has come and gone, so there’s no medals waiting for anyone who’s in a big hurry on the slopes.  The more the snow drags on you, the less turning force you want to create and a lower speed is primary to lowering that drag.

This awesome weather is nothing to rush through, so take an extra moment between runs, tilt your chin at the sun, close your eyes, and breathe in the Spring conditions.  You’ll be glad you did over the next 11 months till it comes around again.
