Where’re you lookin’?
January 5th, 2006If you’re going to ski and ride, it’s going to be something you’ll want to do safely. Things can change quickly on the slopes and keeping an eye on your environment is just common sense. You’ll contribute to everyone’s safety if you pay attention while on the slopes, all the time. It isn’t enough to know where you are and where’s you’re going; you’ll also want to focus on everything that’s around you and where it’s going.
A solid method to meet this goal is to ski like you drive. Hopefully your driving technique centers around using “quick glances” to simultaneously look down the road, left and right, at the dashboard, and basically at everything around you. In a changing environment, you want to avoid staring at any one location for too long or you may get an unexpected surprise from where you least expect it. When skiing and riding, use those quick glances to know as much as possible about what’s going on around you.
Paying attention isn’t something you should do while skiing and riding: it is how you ski and ride.
