Winterkids is Winter Fun

December 14th, 2006

Winter is a long season in North America and it can be a challenge to stay active during those months. Here in Maine, it’s part of our New England heritage to keep getting outside no matter what the weather and conditions. A non-profit organization called Winterkids promotes those winter recreation activities, including skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and hiking!

Winterkids encourages health, education, and fitness in children, specifically during the winter months. Winterkids has a Passport program that allows fifth, sixth, and seventh grade kids to ski, snowboard, skate, cross country ski, snowshoe, tube, and have fun for FREE at 59 recreational sites in the State of Maine. The Passport is issued to individual children and includes lift tickets, passes, equipment rentals, and other discounts as well. Bringing the family is an important part of the fun, too, so there are other coupons for discounts for family members, too. Apply for a Passport on-line or by calling Winterkids, 207-871-5700.

Seth Wescott, Olympic Champion, is one of Winterkid’s spokespersons and his voice has been instrumental in getting the message out. Winter time means getting active outside time! Go to www.Winterkids.org to become a Winterkid!
